AAP NRI teams rally round Khaira on Sikh Referendum issue

-- 20 June,2018

Chandigarh, June 20

Opening a new confrontation within the beleaguered Aam Aadmi Party, its NRI teams from across the world on Wednesday rallied round Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Khaira on the Sikh Referendum 2020 issue and sought ouster of Punjab co-convener Balbir Singh for questioning Khaira on the issue.

In an open letter to Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Punjab Political Affairs incharge Manish Sisodia, the NRI teams from almost all countries, including the USA, Canada, European countries, Australia and New Zealand, said Khaira had rightly raised the issue of atrocities against Sikhs and the party should back him.

The letter carried names of 36 NRI leaders. They said Khaira had justified the Sikh demand for justice, at the same time saying that he is an Indian and owed allegiance to the Indian Constitution.

They sought the immediate removal of Balbir Singh arguing that he had issued media statements without checking Khaira’s version of the news reports. They also sought his removal for the party’s defeat in the Shahpur bypoll where the AAP polled only 1,100 votes.

Balbir in a tweet on Monday had claimed that he had called up Khaira five times for cross-checking his statement on the Sikh Referendum.
