Srinagar, May 27
Eight militants, including a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander and close aide of Burhan Wani, were killed in two different operations across Kashmir since late Friday evening.Police sources said Sabzar Ahmad, alias Sahbeh Don, and his associate were killed in a fierce gunfight at Saimoh village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Three militants were trapped inside a house in the village, but so far two bodies have been recovered, sources said.

“Two militants, including Sabazar Ahmad, have been killed in Tral gunfight,” Director-General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid told The Tribune.

On Friday evening, a patrol party of 42 Rashtriya Rifles battalion was fired upon by militants in Tral, but there were no casualties in the brief encounter as the militants managed to flee the spot. After the shootout, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area and they were able to establish contact with the militants.

The security forces had maintained a tight cordon around the area the entire night to ensure that the militants did not escape.

There were also reports of clashes between locals and security forces in the area.
6 militants killed as Army foils infiltration bid
Meanwhile, six militants were killed in Rampur sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district as the Army foiled an infiltration bid during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

The bid was foiled hours after the Army thwarted a Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) attack and killed two militants in the neighbouring Uri sector.

The Army said the infiltration bid was foiled in Rampur sector between Uri and Gulmarg when soldiers noticed the movement of armed militants.

“Six terrorists were killed in the gunfight and a search operation is still in progress,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.
