Facebook headquarters evacuated due to bomb threat

-- 12 December,2018

The New York Police Department evacuated buildings on Facebook’s headquarters in the Silicon Valley after an anonymous bomb threat was received but hours after a sweep of the structure began there was no word of explosives found.

The San Mateo bomb unit responded to the afternoon threat at the company’s campus in Menlo Park, California, the Menlo Park Police Department said in a statement. The bomb squad swept the targeted building with explosive-detecting dogs but turned up no suspicious packages or devices.

In a tweet around 6 PM local time, Menlo Park PD said “The building has been evacuated and the bomb unit is on scene.” The events bring to mind the shooting at YouTube earlier this year, and even if it’s a hoax, we’ve also seen how quickly “swatting” pranks can end tragically.

A company spokesperson confirmed via email that everyone is safe, a few buildings were evacuated and they are investigating.
