Moga, December 7
Four people were killed and 17 others injured when a private sleeper bus rammed into a truck near the national power grid at Singhwala village on the Moga-Kotkapura road in Moga district on Thursday morning.
One of the deceased was an army man identified as Rajinder Singh, but his place of residence was yet to be verified. The other three deceased could not be identified immediately. The driver and conductor of the bus also died in the mishap, police said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus coming from Jaipur and on its way to Jammu collided with the truck on the highway just 5 km from Moga town.
The exact cause of the accident was still under investigation, but it was believed that the driver of the bus might have suffered from drowsiness. Moreover, poor vision due to foggy weather conditions in the wee hours could also be one of the reasons behind the collision. The bus collided with the truck from the back at a high speed.
Those injured are Jagdish Khadar, resident of Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan; Nagesh, resident of Jhunjhunu; Ajay from Manan in Pathankot; Anu Devi of Manan; Sajid Khan of Churu in Rajasthan; Vikram Singh of Churu; Shri Ram of Jhuhunjunu; Raju Singh of Churu; Mahesh Kumar of Hanumangarh; Amit Kumar of Hanumangarh; Dhanna Ram of Nago in Rajasthan; Subhash Chand of Jhunjhunu; Kishan Kumar of Jhunjhunu; Sanjay Kumar of Jhunjhunu and Sunil Kumar of Churu.
They were rushed to the district hospital at Moga where they are undergoing treatment. One of the patients was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot.
