Chandigarh, April 15

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Punjab unit Core Committee chief of the party, principal Budhram on Monday described the decision of the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) not to teach subjects in Punjabi language in central schools in the state as disastrous, stating that it move would debar teeming millions of students across the state from the language they were comfortable with. The move had elicited widespread condemnation from various writers’ fora and lovers of the language.

In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh, principal Budhram said that by initiating such drastic steps, the saffron government led by Narendra Modi was all for implementing the RSS agenda across the country at the cost of students’ careers. He said that the decision not to teach subjects in Punjabi language could not be seen in isolation, the government had been hell-bent on destroying the paradigms with a bang, he said. The government, he added, had played a cruel joke on the students and lovers of the language by introducing Sanskrit as second language instead of Punjabi in Himachal Pradesh.

The AAP leader said that by taking such a dictatorial decision the government was playing with the careers of teeming millions of students across the country by denying them the right to pursue the language they were comfortable with. The lopsided move had been decried by, besides the students, the lovers of their ‘Maa Boli’ – Punjabi to be precise, writers, intelligentsia and others.

AAP MLA said that the union government should review and roll back on the decision which, he said, was not only a tantamount to gross injustice with the language patronized by a vast majority of people in the state but also a deliverate attempt to debar teeming millions of the students from their Maa Boli (Mother tongue, he said. He demanded immediate roll back on the decision.
