Launch education drive for kids: Puri to Punjabis

New Delhi, October 18
Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri has asked the Punjabi community to do more on educating children of the community.
Puri was felicitated at an event last night by the World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) where he asked the community to launch an education drive for children. The WPO, an international body headed by Vikramjit Singh Sahney, hosted the function in the national capital. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari was the guest of honour. Sahney further announced a programme for preparing young needy Punjabi students for various competitive exams such as NDA, bank probation officers, IITs, MBA and civil services.
The WPO is giving scholarships to economically weaker students, organising marriages of daughters of 1984 anti-sikh riot victims and running drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in Punjab. The WPO will be organising mass marriages of the daughters of the poor families and will also distribute 100 laptops/ipads to outstanding economically weak Punjabi students.
Among those who attended the event were General JJ Singh (retd), Justice RS Sodhi (retd), Justice GS Sistani (retd) and National Minorities Commission former chairman Tarlochan Singh.
