Rahul Gandhi cancels visit to Gorakhpur’s BRD hospital

-- 19 August,2017

Lucknow, August 19
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi cancelled at the last minute his visit to the Baba Ram Das Medical College hospital in Gorakhpur on Saturday evening.
The reason behind the cancellation is the likelihood of his security detail and other arrangements causing inconvenience to the beleaguered patients at the hospital. He is expected to address the media in Gorakhpur.

It was a day of charges and counter-charges which raised the political temperature of Gorakhpur which was visited by chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Reacting to chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s allegation that Delhi’s ‘yuvraj’, an apparent reference to Rahul Gandhi, and Lucknow’s ‘shehzada’ (read Akhilesh Yadav) were bent on treating Gorakhpur as a picnic spot, UPCC president Raj Babbar said chief minister’s “ghatiya baatein” brings down the prestige of the office that he is occupying.
“It shows that he is nervous with Rahul Gandhi’s visit as he knows that he will get justice for the victims,” said Babbar who accompanied Gandhi during his visit to the district.
Former union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad charged the UP chief minister with not doing anything for the hospital in spite of being five-time MP from Gorakhpur. This is Azad’s second visit to the district since the death of 30 children in 36 hours on August 10-11.
Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to CM Yogi in a tweet, “Khokhley wadon and halki bayanbaazi se kab tak janta ko bahlayenge, aisey banega ‘Swachch UP-Swasth UP?” (Till when will you cajole the people with false promises and lightweight rhetoric? Is this how “Clean UP- Healthy UP” will be achieved?)
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi reached Gorakhpur and met the families of children who had lost their lives allegedly due to shortage of oxygen supply in the BRD hospital on August 10 and 11.
At Bagagada village, he met Brahmadev Yadav who lost his twin son and daughter. At Malav village, he met Nitesh Shukla. Gandhi visited the home of Rama Shankar at Basoli Khurd village and then in the Khutahana, he shared the grief of Jitendra and his family.
Gandhi heard out the bereaved families and assured them of his full support. He was accompanied among other by AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and UPCC president Raj Babbar.
The Congress party has been running an unrelenting campaign against the Yogi Adityanath government on the alleged shortage of oxygen causing the deaths at the Gorakhpur hospital, a charge vehemently denied by the state government.
