-- 22 July,2017

Newdelhi : The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa has urged Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to immediate launch awareness and implementation drive on Anand Marriage Act in Punjab so that members of the sikh community can get their marriages registered under the act.

In a letter written to Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Sirsa said that this act has been notified by the Government of Punjab on December 19, 2016 but still it has not been fully implemented and marriages are not being registered under the act in the state of Punjab. He said that though it has been long time that act have been notified but media reports have suggested that people are not aware about it. He said that even states like Haryana have implemented the act and marriage certificates are being issued under the act.

Urging him to launch an awareness and implementation drive on the issue immediately, Mr. Sirsa said that members of the sikh community travelling abroad who mention that they belong to sikh religion face lots of unnecessary troubles as their marriage certificates are not being issued under Anand Marriage Act. He said that a planned campaign on the issue was needed in this hour so that people should be made aware about the provision and certificates should be issued to Sikhs under Anand Marriage Act.
