-- 26 March,2019

Chandigarh, March 26

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had slammed the captain Amrinder Singh Government for sleeping over the rising incidents of drug addiction, especially among the youth in the state, leading to deaths due to over doze.

Post the incident of 13-year-old girl from Rama Mandi allegedly into drugs, more cases have come to light from the border districts of Gurdaspur, Ferozepore and Tarn Taran, where three youths have died of drug over doze.

In a joint statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh here on Monday, Punjab state Core Committee chief of the party and MLA  principal Budhram and Punjab state Youth Wing President Manjinder Singh Sidhu said that on the one hand, farmers were subjected to commit suicides, youths were shoved into drugs on the other due to the anti-people policies of the government in the saddle.

AAP leader said that, like his predecessors – the Badals, Captain Amrinder Singh was following in their footsteps when it came to stamping out the menace of drugs from the state eating out the vitals of the state.

Budhram said that Captain and the entire Congress leadership in the state should appear before the Takht Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo and apologise to the people of Punjab and the Panth for reneging on the promise of stamping out the menace of drugs and send the drug lords behind the bars within four weeks after assuming power.

Budhram said that, instead of containing the menace rampant in the state, it had aggravated and touched a new high, if the upswing in the cases of deaths due to drug over doze were any indications, he said.

Youth wing president, Manjinder Singh Sidhu, appealed to the people of the state, especially the younger and educated lot, to corner those who backtracked on the promises on taming the drug lords, addressing unemployment and other issues, when they come to them for votes.
