Vigilance nabs 18 officials in bribery cases during September

Chandigarh, October 12: State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing campaign against corruption, has been able to nab 18 officials red handed accepting bribes in 17 different trap cases during the month of September, which includes 7 police personnel, 5 employees of revenue department and 6 belonging to other departments.

Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said the Bureau had submitted challans of 12 vigilance cases in various special courts in the last month. Apart from this, four vigilance enquires have also been registered to thoroughly probe the corruption cases against public servants. In addition to this five criminal cases have also been registered after through probe.

Giving more details, he informed that special courts have decided four bribery cases filed and contested by the Bureau during last month. Deepak Khanna, clerk posted at Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Hoshiarpur was convicted and sentenced with 2 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 5,000 by the Additional Sessions Judge Hoshiarpur. Pawan Kumar, Assistant Engineer in BDPO office Budladha, Mansa was also sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 50,000 by the Additional Sessions Judge Mansa.

Similarly Daljeet Singh, Lineman. and Gurnam Singh Junior Engineer of Powercom Amritsar were imprisoned for 4 years jail with fine of Rs. 5,000 each by the Additional Sessions Judge Amritsar and Tej Kumar Goyal PCS, Joint Secretary in Welfare Department was sentenced for 3 years with fine of Rs. 12,000 by the Additional Sessions Judge SAS Nagar.
