Govt should order CBI probe into multi-crore uniform scam under watch of High Court: : Harpal Singh Cheema

Chandigarh, May 2

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded a high level probe into the multi-crore uniform scam involving certain top notch private companies and the government leaving a vast majority of the poor and ‘Dalit’ students studying in Punjab government schools, high and dry. It has slammed the Captain Amarinder Singh Government for being insensitive to the cause of the poor and ‘Dalit’ students in the state.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema and Punjab Campaign Committee Chief and MLA from Sunam, Aman Arora, have demanded a high level CBI probe into the multi-crore school uniform scam under the watch of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

They also demanded that the Captain Government should constitute a Vidhan Sabha Committee from inviting members from all political parties to probe the mechanism how the government was distributing books and uniforms to students of government schools in the state. The committee should give suggestions to ensure student-friendly distribution of books and uniforms to them well before the start of the new academic session, the AAP leaders said.

Cheema said that a simultaneous probe by the committee was mandatory to prove the point that, like the preceding Badal-led SAD-BJP government, Captain Amarinder Singh Government, too, had been in following in its footsteps when it cames to distribution of books and uniforms to poor and ‘dalit’ students..

Aman Arora went on to saying that the winter uniforms which were due to be given to the beneficiaries during the academic session 2018-19 were not distributed for unspecified reasons. He accused the government of conniving with high profile private companies tasked with offering quality cloth for the uniforms. He said that the quality of cloth was much below the mark and measurement and stitching in perfect order.

He further added that the scam involved worth more than Rs 65 crore and hence called for a high level CBI prove under the watch of Pb and Haryana High Court to bring the whole truth to the fore. And, with a view of ensuring that there should be no delay in distribution of books, uniforms and stipend, the Vidhan Sabha Committee should prepare and put up its fact-finding report based on the parleys with the parents and school on the investigation table.

The AAP leaders said that during the previous Badal-led government, a multi-crore scam involving books and lab kits for students had rattled it to the hilt. The Captain government, too, had been involved in the uniform scam leaving a large number of the poor and ‘Dalit’ in quandary.
