BJP leaders want Deol to focus on local issues

Gurdaspur, may 1

Actor and BJP Gurdaspur nominee Sunny Deol’s brief speech yesterday in which he sidetracked the problems of the parliamentary constituency has unnerved the party with leaders now being forced to frame a new plan.
A meeting was held in Pathankot today where the shortcomings of yesterday’s event were discussed. Deol was not a part of the proceedings because he had flown to Mumbai after the rally to cast his vote.

With Deol himself claiming that he “did not know much about nuances of politics” and with the Congress enjoying territorial advantage in the form of having its MLAs on seven of the total nine seats this constituency has, BJP leaders are now busy joining the dots to counter the experience of sitting MP and Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar.
The actor was expected to delve into the basic issues of the constituency but he started and ended his speech with popular film one-liners with nothing in between. Observers claim that this was a brilliant way to connect with the audience, but it was not a vote-catching extempore.

The proceedings went on for over an hour but Deol spoke for just two minutes, despite the fact that he was not only the candidate but also the party’s star campaigner.

Deol’s election managers have now chalked out a plan wherein the party will concentrate in the five Assembly seats held by the SAD. Under the seat-sharing agreement, the SAD has been given five seats, while the BJP has been allocated four Assembly seats in this constituency.
