-- 12 April,2019

Chandigarh, April 12

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and chief spokesman Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has said that the state was in the grip of drug addiction, a menace that had gone from bad to worse during the tow-year tenure of Captain Aamrinder Singh government.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters in Chandigarh Hayer said that it was indeed distressing to know that youths in the state were dying due to drug overdose.

Expressing deep shock over the death of a 21-year-old youth Nirbhai Singh of Libra village (Khanna) due to drug overdose, Hayer accused the sleepy Captain government for the menace, saying that he had reneging on the promise to get rid of the menace under oath. He added that Nirbhai, only brother of three sisters, could have been saved had Captain redeemed his pledge to fight out the menace.

The AAP leader accused the ruling government for worsening the situation, saying that now drugs were being delivered at doorstep under the political patronage with those at the helms turning a blind eye to the menace.

He said that Nirbhai was not the only youth who took the extreme step, more instances from various parts of state could be cited to prove the point that the situation was growing even graver.

Hayer appealed to the people to ask the Badals and Captain to show their report cards of performances and steps initiated by their during their respective tenures to check the menace of death and destruction when they come to them seeking their vote and support.
