Didi ignored calls to discuss Fani: Modi, What to say to an ‘expiry PM’: Mamata

-- 06 May,2019

Tamluk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a rally in West Bengal on Monday said the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not speak to him when called her up to talk about cyclone Fani.

“Speedbreaker didi has tried to play politics even on cyclone Fani. I tried to get in touch with Mamata didi but her arrogance is such that she refused to talk to me, I tried again but she did not get in touch,” Modi attacked the TMC supremo in a rally here.

Replying to PM Modi’s comment on her unwillingness to talk on Cyclone Fani, Mamata Banerjee at a rally said, “I could not take PM’s call on cyclone Fani as I was in Kharagpur.”

On a caustic note she added: “I don’t want to share dais with an expiry PM as elections are on.”

PM Modi also said Mamata Banerjee is so frustrated these days that she doesn’t even want to talk or hear about God. “The situation is such that didi is arresting and jailing those who are chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram’,” added Modi.

Modi said the entire nation was happy about Masood Azhar being designated as a global terrorist but ‘didi’ never hailed the BJP-led government’s achievement.

On Sunday, sources revealed that two attempts were made by the PM’s staff to connect with Banerjee on the telephone.

Reacting to reports in a section of the media that TMC has expressed its displeasure over Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking only to West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi to inquire about the cyclone aftermath, the PMO sources said the claim was incorrect.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey to assess the loss and destruction caused by Cyclone Fani in Odisha.

PM Modi had announced that the Centre would release Rs 1,000 crore to Odisha and other states to deal with the devastation caused by Fani.
