Major reshuffle in Punjab ministry in the offing after polls: Majithia

-- 03 May,2019

Chandigarh, May 3:

The face of council of ministers in Punjab would be completely changed after May 23 this year as more than 70 percent of the ministers are likely to be axed and two third of party legislators would not be fielded in the next assembly polls if the diktat of Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh is implemented in letter and spirit .

In a statement issued here today, the Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that Amarinder Singh has threatened his party’s ministerial colleagues that they would be dropped automatically if the Lok Sabha nominees of the Congress lost in their constituency.

Similarly, he has ordained that the party legislators failing to ensure victory of Congress nominees in the Lok Sabha polls in their assembly segment should forget of getting the party ticket in the ensuing assembly elections.

Having a dig at Amarinder Singh, Majithia said that as per the information pouring in from the entire state, the  Congress candidates are likely to lose in nearly in 70 percent of the assembly segments currently represented by ministers in the state assembly.

This would require a major reshuffle in the council of ministers as all such ministers won’t be able to continue. What would be baffling the chief minister is whether there would be sufficient number of legislators who would be qualified to fill the vacancies, said Majithia in half jest.

In the same vein, Majithia argued that in the next assembly polls, the Congress would have to look for fresh faces for at least two third of the legislative assemblies as the outgoing legislators not assuring party’s victory in their respective constituencies won’t be qualified.

The ongoing Lok Sabha polls are a referendum on the performance of Amarinder Singh’s government and any adverse results are reflection on his performance and not of ministers or legislators, who have little say in the government, argue upset Congress legislators.
