-- 09 May,2019

Chandigarh, May 9: Sh. Ravi S. Ahluwalia and Harpreet Sidhu of Patiala Foundation and Avoid Accident Forum submitted his memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S. Karuna Raju and highlighted that various political parties and candidates were taking out road shows for canvassing leading to traffic road violations which are becoming commonplace.

He also informed the CEO Dr. S. Karuna Raju that their organization was celebrating UN Road Safety Week from May 6 to 12 with the theme ‘Speak Up’ which was being commemorated around the globe.

They also requested the CEO that while granting permission for such road shows, provision for ambulance and its designated path must be ensured in advance.

As road shows were being organized regularly by all political outfits, the risk of an eventuality was higher and with jammed roads movement of ambulances carrying serious victims hers adversely affected.

The political parties must be made aware so that precious lives are saved. As People from all parts of state approach PGI for treatment and during road shows such serious patients face difficulties in reaching the hospital. The political parties should focus their attention towards this.

The CEO Dr. Raju assured the Patiala Foundation and Avoid Accident Forum representatives that the Commission had already issued necessary directions in this regard which would be reemphasized.
