Chandigarh, May 10

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, took a serious note of the ‘generosity’ shown by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to the Badal family. He said that people of the state who were well aware of their mutual bonhomie and the political gimmickry they indulge in so often, had made up their minds to teach both of them lessons, stating that the people were politically conscious and knew how to tackle these professional ‘liars’.

In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh on Friday, Cheema said the people of the state who had witnessed the 10-year-old ‘mafia raj’ under the SAD government regime as also the serious allegations of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and other scriptures at Behbal Kalan and firing incident at Kotkapura, the Badal family was facing. While the people had made up their mind to give them a befitting reply, Capt. Amarinder Singh was going the whole hog to offer them protective patronage to enable them to stay relevant in politics.

The AAP leader further said that had Captain Amarinder Singh been a little too serious to punish the Badals, he would not have ‘sidelined’ firebrand Congress leader and cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, which, he said, proved the point. Cheema said that Captain’s strategy was to make Harsimrat Kaur Badal win from Bathinda and Sukhbir Singh Badal from Firozpur Parliamentary constituencies, he said. He accused Captain Amrinder Singh of splitting AAP through its henchmen and that now he was resorting to poaching on AAP MLAs through money and muscle power, stating that the maneuver would enable them grab the LoP seat to for Majithia to continue their friendly matches for ever.

LoP said that Captain Amarinder Singh during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls had come to realize about the ground ‘real’ power of Aam Aadmi Party. He alleged that captain was engaged in decimating the AAP with Badals and Modi-Amit Shah duo behind his ulterior motive. He added that AAP was not a party of its law makers but belonged to the common people of the country. He said AAP would continue its fight to protect the rights of the people caring two hoots for retaining ‘chair’ of the Opposition.
