In a statement issued from party headquarters here on Thursday, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has demanded that the government should bail out all the truck and other transport unions in the state and upgrade them to set things rights.

Talking to private transporters, Cheema said, if voted to power, the first and foremost duty of the AAP government would be to take on the high and mighty transport mafia ruling the roost in connivance with the official machinery. He said that after assuming power, a concrete transport policy would be put in place, which had been consigned to the refuge bin since 1992.

The AAP leader said that efforts would be made to make transport would be made lucrative, which would transparent and free from corruption.

Accusing the Badal and Captain Amarinder Singh governments for the sorry state of affairs leaving those into transport trade to face starvation, Cheema said both were to be held solely responsible for promoting the cult of mafia ‘raj’ in the state.
