Apex court only hope for victims, says AAP

-- 12 January,2018

New Delhi, January 12,The Congress and the BJP governments at the Centre have given protection to those involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases. The hope for justice is only from the Supreme Court that yesterday ordered the constitution of a new SIT.This was stated by senior AAP leader and newly elected Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh. He said it was surprising that riot accused had not been punished for the last more than 30 years. When AAP formed the government in Delhi for the first time, a proposal for constituting a SIT was submitted to then LG Najeeb Jung, but no action was taken as the Congress was in power at the Centre, he charged. In 2015, when AAP came back to power, the Centre constituted a SIT fearing AAP might take the lead by constituting the committee for investigating the case.Addressing a press conference, Sanjay claimed that the Supreme Court had exposed the Union Government that did nothing for the last four years. “The Supreme Court has ordered to constitute its own committee to investigate those cases,” he said. The Centre had not only saved the accused by constituting the SIT but also closed 190 cases registered by the Delhi Police, he alleged. Former AAP MLA Jarnail Singh demanded an investigation into the 1984 riot cases under the monitoring of the Supreme Court.
