Government likely to announce 4 lakh crore farm loan waivers to woo farmers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance government is likely to announce loan waiver to farmers worth billions of dollars to win back rural voters ahead of Lok Sabha 2019 polls.

Following the defeat in the five state assembly polls especially in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh where Bhartiya Janata Party was in power over a decade, government sources said that over four lakh crore of farmers loans is likely to be waived off by the government soon.

Shifting back the focus on rural voters, Modi government would start working out the details soon on plans to allocate money to the farmers for loan waiver.

Following the setback in three agrarian based states in the current assembly elections, political analysts have pointed out the farmers’ issue which was compromised with Ram Mandir and Hindutva issue as a major factor of defeat for BJP.

The General Elections is due by May 2019, less than five months BJP led central government without wasting more time is likely to announce the loan waiver for farmers immediately.
