Gram Panchayat Elections: Election Commission orders re-polling at 14 Booths

Chandigarh, December 31: Taking strong cognisance of the reports of irregularities in Gram Panchayat Elections at some polling booths, the State Election Commission, Punjab has ordered re-polling at 14 booths of the eight districts for Sarpanchs and Panchs.

The spokesman of the commission said that re-polling will be held on January 2, 2019 from 8 am to 4 pm. He said that these booths included village Vadala Bhittewind, Block Verka and entire Panchayat of Village Daleh, Block Harsha Chinna (Both in Amritsar District), entire Panchayat of Village Bajurgwala, Block Dhariwal (Gurdaspur), Ward-5 and 6 of Villaga Chaura (Gurdaspur), entire Panchayat of village Lakhmir Ke Hithar and Mohalla Nanakpura of Village Nanakura (Both Block Mamdot, District Ferozepur).

Divulging further he said that repolling will be held for the entire Panchayat of village Devtawal of Block Sudhar (Ludhiana). He said that the commission also ordered to re-poll in Village Lacharu and Hari Majra of Block Ghanaur and entire Panchayat of Village Mehmadpur of Block Patiala (District Patiala). Repolling will be held in Ward no 7 of Gram Panchayat Saidpur Jhiri (West Side) Jalandhar. He further said that re-polling will also held for the post of Sarpanch in Village Tarrak and Ghataur of District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Village Ratangarh of Block Narot Jaimal Singh Wala, District Pathankot.

Describing the final percentage of the polling, he said that total 80.38% of the voters of the state exercised their right to vote in these Gram Panchayat Elections. The maximum polling percentage was 88.21% in district Mansa and the lowest 66.14% in district Tarn Taran. According to the figures of polling received from across the state Amritsar recorded 75.16 percent, Bathinda 84.75, Barnala 81, Ferozepur 81, Fatehgarh Sahib 83.89, Faridkot 83.15, Fazilka 86, Gurdaspur 78, Hoshiarpur 74.10, Jalandhar 75.21, Kapurthala 77.03, Ludhiana 77.92, Moga 81.21, Sri Muktsar Sahib 84.32, Mansa 88.21, Patiala 82, Pathankot 82, Rupnagar 81.6, Sangrur 86.55, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar 84, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar 75.22 and Tarn Taran had recorded 66.14 percent voting.
