Muktsar, May 16

The Leader of the Opposition, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, on Tuesday met protesting anganwadi workers outside the residence of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal at Badal village here.
The protesters are on a five-day hunger strike. They handed over a memorandum to Khaira, raising various demands, including salary hike on the pattern of Haryana. Khaira assured them of doing the needful.
Later, he visited the canals at Mahuana village in Lambi to check water contamination.
Khaira said the state government must review the security cover provided to some people in the state. “It is a burden on the state exchequer and swanky vehicles provided to some influential people should be taken back,” he added.
On this, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said: “The Central Government decides who needs to be provided security cover.”
