Pannu thanks farmers for sowing paddy on scheduled time

Chandigarh June 20:

Thanking the farmers for sowing paddy on the scheduled time, Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu, Director Tandrust Punjab Mission said that according to the scientists, the ground water is depleting fast and is going down annually by two and a half feet. In such a grave scenario the cooperation by the farmers by sowing paddy from June 20 onwards will go a long way in checking the fall in water table. Wishing the farmers all the best, he prayed for a bumper harvest for them.

Pannu informed that on an average paddy is sown in 65 lakh acres in Punjab. Excluding the water logged areas where early sowing is permitted, all the farmers were advised and directed to sow paddy from June 20 onwards. The directions were adhered by the majority, barring a few farmers who defying the government directions initiated early sowing. Total paddy planted before the scheduled date is only one thousand acres .Action has been taken on them as per law and they are requested to sown the paddy from 20th June onwards in the next paddy plantation season.
