PM Modi announces Rs 20,000-crore defence corridor for Bundelkhand

-- 21 February,2018

Lucknow, February 21

Uttar Pradesh will soon get a Rs 20,000 crore defence industrial corridor in the Bundelkhand region promising 2.5 lakh jobs. This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the UP government’s ambitious Investment Summit 2018 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Modi said of the two proposed defence industrial corridors promised in the central budget, one will come up in UP covering the areas of Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi, Chitrakoot and Lucknow.
Complimenting the Yogi Adityanath government for giving a push to employment-oriented schemes, Modi described CM Yogi’s recently launched ‘one district, one product’ scheme as a potential “game-changer” for helping develop a holistic eco-system for promotion of traditional handicrafts.
He said linking the vision to various central schemes like skill development, Stand Up and Start Up India along with Mudra loans, will help the up-gradation of traditional local crafts helping them with design, branding and marketing inputs and helping them function as modern Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the competitive global market.
“This is what I referred to when I said during the election meetings in Uttar Pradesh that with a BJP government in UP there would be double engine power to take the state to development and progress,” said Modi.
Underlining the need for value addition in every sector in the state, Modi pointed out how despite UP being the top producer in the country in wheat, sugarcane, potato, milk and being number two in growing vegetables and fruits, it had not seen the kind of prosperity as there had been little value addition.
Launching the ‘Nivesh Mitra Portal’, a one-stop digital clearance system, the PM said that now instead of ‘red-tape’ investors will get ‘red carpet treatment’ to come and help UP realise its full potential.
He also challenged the Uttar Pradesh government to compete with the Maharashtra government’s pledge taken at their investment summit two days ago to make it a trillion dollar economy.
“I would like to leave this idea amongst you. Let me see if you can become the first state to become a trillion dollar economy. You already have the foundation of 50 lakh MSMEs,” pointed out Modi.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said it was a challenge for his government to take UP out of the category of ‘bimaru’ state and propel it towards development and prosperity.
He claimed that his government was working towards ensuring the basic prerequisites of inviting investments like ensuring law and order, dedicated power supply, better road connectivity and transport.
A beaming CM said 1,045 MOUs had already been signed even before the Investment Summit promising investments close to the state’s current budget of Rs 4.28 lakh crore.
He assured to personally monitor the implementation of the MOUs so that no investor suffered an inconvenience at any point.
Among the captain of industries present and expressing their willingness to invest in UP were CMD Reliance Group of Industries Mukesh Ambani, CMD Adani Group Gautam Adani, Chairman of Birla Group of Industries Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman Mahindra & Mahindra Anand Mahindra, Chairman Tata Sons N Chandrashekharan and Chairman Essel Group Limited Subhash Chandra, among others.
Former Prime Minister of Mauritius and currently the defence minister and mentor Anerood Jugnauth also addressed the gathering.
