Two world class shooting ranges to be developed in Rupnagar district to encourage shooting: Channi

Roopnagar, November 14 – The Punjab Technical Education & Industrial Training Minister, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi today inaugurated the under-14, 17 and 19-year-old boys and girls state level inter-district shooting championship being organised by the Education Department, Punjab at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Channi said that this is for the first time that school students shooting competition is being organized in Rupnagar as earlier this competition used to be organised at Ludhiana. He said that as an initiative to promote shooting as a game and produce good National & International level shooting players of this area two shooting ranges would be developed in Roopnagar district one at Government college and another at Government School Chamkaur Sahib.

On the sidelines of the function interacting with the media Mr. Channi stressed that the state government would also encourage and create an environment to promote Kabaddi at the grassroots level to associate new generation with the mother sport.

Addressing the students he said that the present age is the era of competition and emphasis should be given to the overall development of students along with studies. He asked the students to set their goals of life and achieve that with full dedication & determination.

Earlier, Mr. Jagtar Singh, Principal of the Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) Sri Chamkaur Sahib informed that about 600 players / players from 20 districts and two sports wings are participating in this tournament out of these 24 shooters belong to Rupnagar district.

Others prominent present on the occasion included Ms Harjot Kaur SDM, Roopnagar, Mr. Himmat Singh Shergil District Education Officer, Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Director, Sajjada Ajit Singh Academy Rupnagar.
