2012 Maruti factory violence: 31 convicted, 117 acquitted

Chandigarh, A Gurgaon court on Friday convicted 31 people and acquitted 117 in the 2012 Maruti Suzuki factory violence case.
Meanwhile, the district administration has deployed heavy security and imposed Section 144 of the CrPC at Maruti’s Manesar plant and around the court complex.

Awanish Kumar Dev, General Manager (HR), was burned to death and several other executives were injured in the violence on the plant premises on July 18, 2012.
As many as 546 employees were terminated and 147 workers arrested, of which 145 were charged with rioting, murder, and attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, assault, and trespass, among others.
Eleven workers are still in jail while others were released on bail.
