4-year-old mowed down by school bus

Patiala, A four-year-old boy was mowed down by his school bus outside SM International School here today. The boy, identified as Prabhjot Singh, was admitted to a private hospital. He died after a few hours of treatment.
The conductor, Paramjeet Singh, was reportedly driving the bus, as the driver was on leave. There was no attendant in the bus — a violation of norms laid down for school vehicles.
Prabhjot boarded the bus along with his six-year-old sister in the morning. The incident took place outside the school when Paramjeet, without ensuring that Prabhjot had got off the bus, moved the vehicle forward, crushing the boy under the rear wheels.
He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. Doctors tried for hours, but could not save Prabhjot’s life.
Prabhjot’s parents were inconsolable when they reached the hospital. His father Iqbal Singh is a photographer and the mother, a housewife.
Patiala DC has ordered a judicial probe into the matter.
Ajaib Singh, SHO, Urban Estate police station, said Paramjeet was booked under Section 304-A of the IPC. “He fled from the spot after the accident. The hunt is on to arrest him,” he said.
The statements of parents and witnesses were being recorded and action would be initiated against the school authorities and the conductor, the SHO added.
