AAP stages walkout over Jallianwala Bagh and national martyrs’ issues

Chandigarh, February 14

            Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Harpal Singh Cheema, on Thursday staged a walk-out on the issue of rejection of party’s resolution, bringing the government on board to write to the British Government for an apology on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on the completion of 100 years and having names of iconic martyrs like Sardar Bhagat Singh and Sardar Udham Singh in government’s office records.

 Cheema and party’s Sunam MLA Aman Arora, jointly said that, by rejecting the proposals without citing any plausible reasons, the government and the speaker had denigrated the honour of the great martyrs who made supreme sacrifices in the freedom struggle and thousands of innocent who lost their lives in the Jallianwala pogrom.

On the occasion, Arora brought to the notice of the House that a motion in respect of the food scam worth a whopping amount of 31 thousands crore involving the erstwhile SAD-BJP government, moved was also rejected by the speaker, saying  the  issue could be raised only during the thanks-giving session. He wanted the scam to be thoroughly probed and those behind it brought to justice. He said even the Congress’s who’s who had been crying hoarse over the matter but only before they assuming power two years ago, he said. He said all were tight-lipped now.

He further added that with the connivance of the government machinery, the SAD-BJP government had inked MoUs with the some top-notch private thermal plant players  after shutting down the government thermal plants at Bathinda, due to which, he said,  there was a huge financial dent of 2,800 crore of rupees annually. He expressed surprise over the state government’s stoic silence. To add salt to injuries, Arora said that the motion moved by AAP was too rejected by the speaker, saying the matter related to the government policy.
