Aujla faces onerous task of uniting MLAs

-- 04 April,2019

Amritsar, April 4

After getting Congress ticket again from the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, Gurjeet Singh Aujla will face onerous task of uniting all local MLAs as some of them had been lobbying against his candidature.
His performance-oriented two years’ long stint made him a recognisable face among people.

He took part in 14 debates and raised 40 questions in Parliament. Besides, his attendance remained 89 per cent in Parliament.

It is learnt that even BJP had approached him to join the party after they found his ticket being held back due to lobbying by some MLAs of the border district.

Some of the MLAs were allegedly objecting to giving him ticket keeping in view his having less experience in politics than them.

Son of an Army man, Aujla took relatively short time to ascend the political ladders. Beginning his political career as a councillor in 2007, his golden moment in politics came in 2017, when he literally pounced upon the opportunity of accepting to contest the bypoll from the prestigious Lok Sabha seat after three sitting Congress MLAs OP Soni, Raj Kumar Verka and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria had turned it down.

District Congress Committee president Jugal Kishore Sharma welcomed the allocation of ticket to Aujla. He said there might have been couple of MLAs opposing ticket to him, but after the final word of the high command all local MLAs would work for his victory.
