Badal reiterates demand for immediate relief and full compensation for farmers

Chandigarh, April 6 : Former Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today thanked government for accepting his demand of immediate and special girdawari to assess the damage caused by the widespread hailstorm and unseasonal rain that lashed across the state late last evening and reiterated his demand to provide immediate relief and full compensation to the affected farmers.
In a statement released here today, Mr. Badal said that he was thankful to the government for accepting the demand he made during the morning to immediate issue orders for special girdawari to assess the damage caused by widespread hailstorm and rain that lashed different parts of the state since last evening. He said that this natural calamity has struck the state at a time when the wheat crop is ready for harvesting throughout the state. He said that farmers had made huge investments on the growth of the wheat and this hailstorm and rain has played havoc with the lives of farmers with huge losses they have suffered due to this unseasonal rain.
Mr. Badal said that to help the farmers as a interim measure immediate relief may please be provided to the farmers to cope with the situation and later full compensation should be paid to them after completion of girdawari. He said that as the new government has assumed charge people especially the farmers have high expectations from it. He said that it is constitutional obligation on the part of the government to safeguard the interests of the people. He said that during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government, it was never found wanting in these situations and he expects the same from the new government.
Former Chief Minister also urged the government to issue requisite orders to ensure purchase of wheat arrival in the mandis so that farmers should not face any problem in view of the circumstances caused by the natural disaster.
