Big bonanza from Transport Minister Aruna Chaudhary on International Women’s Day

15 seats reserved for Women/Divyang/Senior Citizens in all Government & Private buses

Directs Transport Department to ensure strict implementation of directive

Chandigarh, March 8:

Giving a big bonanza on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Transport Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary today divulged that 15 seats have been reserved in all the Government and Private buses for Women/Divyang/Senior Citizens.

The minister in a press communique said that a directive has been issued to the Principal Secretary Transport and State Transport Commissioner (STC) to ensure the strict implementation of the directive. The minister further added that catering to the well being of Women/Divyangs/Senior Citizens in the buses as well as ensuring their safe and comfortable journey is the main aim of the State Government.

Elaborating more, Mrs. Chaudhary said that seat numbers 4 to 6 would be reserved for the senior citizens and 7 to 18 for women with adequate adjustments for divyangs in seat numbers 4 to 18 . This would also be clearly mentioned on the back of these seat numbers so as to make sure that no other person occupies these seats. The directive also includes all assistance to the above categories in respect of being provided with a separate queue to allott seat numbers.

It is also worth noting that this is the first time that such orders would be applicable to the private buses too.
