CAPT AMARINDER CONGRATULATES SANITATION DEPT & PEOPLE FOR PUNJAB’S RANKINGS IN SWACHH SARVEKSHAN 2019

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 6:  Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday congratulated the Water Supply & Sanitation Department for making the state one of best overall performing in sanitation across the country in Swachh Sarvekhshan 2019 survey.

          The state had improved its position from the 9th rank last year to the 7th in this category, while also being ranked no. 1 in North India in the survey.

          Disclosing this here today, spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that as per the survey results announced by the President of India today at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Nawanshahar has been adjudged the cleanest city in North Zone in more than one Lac population cities, besides receiving citations for Garbage Free City.

          Apart from this, two Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) – Dirba and Amritsar Cantonment – have been awarded in the Fastest Moving City in sanitation. Six other cities have been given citations/mementos in sanitation, these being Zira, Kharar, Bhogpur, Jalandhar Cantonment, Bhai Rupa and Roopnagar.

          The Chief Minister also complemented the Department for enabling Bathinda and Patiala to be among the country’s top 100 cleanest cities, being ranked 31 and 71, respectively.

          Notably, out of the total 4231 ULBs surveyed under Swachh Sarvekhshan 2019, 1020 were in Northern Zone, of which 32 ULBs of Punjab have been selected in the top 100 ranks.

          Congratulating the people on this feat, the Chief Minister exuded confidence that they would continue their endeavour in the future to scale new levels of cleanliness and overall health parameters. The rankings were a recognition of the people’s wholehearted cooperation and support in pursuing the state government’s mission to make Punjab clean, green and pollution-free.
