ASKS CS TO INQUIRE INTO LAPSES LEADING TO ISSUANCE OF ARMS LICENCE TO ACCUSED

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 9: Responding to a request from the family members of the Kharar Licensing Authority Zonal, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday handed over the Neha Shorie murder probe to the Director, Bureau of Investigation, Prabodh Kumar.

The victim’s family met the Chief Minister at his official residence to request for shifting the investigation case out of district Mohali. Acceding to the request, Captain Amarinder entrusted the probe to senior IPS officer Prabodh Kumar, who has over 14 years of experience in working with the CBI on murder cases.

According to an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister has also asked the Chief Secretary to enquire into the lapses in the issuance of the revolver license to the accused Balwinder Singh by the Ropar District Police and the District magistrate. The CS would also enquire into the subsequent sale of weapon to the accused by a Ropar based arms dealer.

The Chief Minister made it clear that nobody would be allowed to interfere or intimidate any public servant in the discharge of their duties, and assured Neha’s family of justice.

During the meeting, the family members expressed apprehension that there was a well-planned conspiracy which led to the killing of Neha and requested for an in-depth investigation into the matter. They also raised questions on the alleged suicide by the accused and raised suspicion of his elimination too, in order to cover up a larger conspiracy.

On March 29 this year, Neha Shorie w/o Varun Monga r/o Panchkula was shot dead by Balwinder Singh s/o Gurbachan Singh r/o Morinda with his licensed revolver. The accused went to the victim’s office and fired two rounds. Thereafter, he had shot himself after being cornered by people there, while he was trying to flee the spot.
