CASH, LIQUOR, PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES AND VALUABLES WORTH Rs. 166.27 CRORE SEIZED IN PUNJAB AFTER ENFORCEMENT OF CODE—CEO

CHANDIGARH, April 08: After Enforcement of Model Code of Conduct come in the state in view of Lok Sabha polls, the enforcement teams have seized cash, liquor, psychotropic substances and valuables worth Rs. 166.27 crore in violation of code till April 07, 2019.

Giving details in this regard, the Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S Karuna Raju said that the surveillance teams had seized 275495 litres of liquor worth Rs 5.55 crore. Similarly, the enforcement wings have also recovered 5169 kg psychotropic substances amounting to Rs 123.77 crore and valuable like ( Gold, Silver etc) amounting to Rs. 18.43 crore besides confiscating unaccounted cash of Rs 18.33 crore, he added.

The Chief Electoral Officer revealed that as many as 1198 highly sensitive places had been identified. Besides this 2946 persons have been identified, who can create disturbance, said he adding that out of these persons action had already been initiated against 2679 while the remaining would also be brought to book. He informed there were 475 non bailable warrant cases under process in the state of which action had been initiated against 2984 persons under non bailable warrants after the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.

As per the directions of the election commission, Dr. Raju said till date 90.23% licensed weapons had been surrendered in the state. He further said that 241 complaints found correct out of 592 complaints received on cVigil App.
