COMMISSION TAKES SUO-MOTO NOTICE OF ATTACK ON DALIT FAMILY

CHANDIGARH, The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken suo-moto notice of an incident involving murder of a 32 year old man Surjit Singh belonging to dalit family and attack on his family by an ex-sarpanch of village Palasaur falling in Tarntaran district. The commission has directed the SSP Tarntaran and Director of Bureau of Investigation, Punjab, Chandigarh to submit detailed action taken report in this regard on 28th February.

Disclosing this, the Chairman of the Commission Mr. Rajesh Bagha said that the attack on the dalit family during the Assembly elections in the State was most unfortunate. He also said that it has come to his notice that the FIR registered against the accused doesn’t contains the sections of Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

He further said that the kind of weapons used by the accused was a matter of investigation as all the weapons were deposited as per the orders of the District Administration during conduct of Assembly polls.
