Cong-AAP alliance talk in Punjab baseless: Asha Kumari

-- 08 June,2018

New Delhi, June 8

The Congress on Friday dismissed as conjectures the news that it would be interested in an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in the state or is pursuing one.
Congress in-charge of Punjab Asha Kumari told The Tribune on Friday that she fully endorsed state chief Sunil Jakhars statements on the issue.
Jakhar has ruled out any talks of alliance and said vested interests were trying to sabotage the Congress in the wake of the party’s impressive Shahkot Assembly bypoll win.
No question of any talks of the Congress and the AAP alliance, said Asha Kumari.
Earlier, Sunil Jakhar rejected these talks as speculation saying, “We completely reject the news of the Congress and the AAP alliance in Punjab, which is a work of fiction and is purely a rumour being advanced by people with vested interests, especially in the wake of Shahkot debacle with the agenda of trying to remain relevant.”
Following Jakhars remarks, Asha Kumari also tweeted, “As Incharge Punjab Affairs, I completely uphold @INCPunjab President Sh.@sunilkjakhar Jis views on the conjectures of Congress and AAP alliance in Punjab! These baseless rumours merit no attention.”The Congress has always maintained it doesn’t need an alliance with the AAP. The party is, however, not averse to the AAP Lok Sabha MPs joining its fold if they so wised.
In the last Parliament session, AAP leader in Lok Sabha Bhagwant Mann had met Jakhar on certain occasions triggering the news of growing proximity between the two camps.
