Congress government responsible for education botch-up in state: Budhram

-- 14 February,2019

Chandigarh, Fabruary 14

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Budhlada MLA Principal Budhram accused the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress in the state of bringing the education system to a screeching halt. Making a point in the ongoing Budget session here on Wednesday, Budhram said that the state government was playing with a vast majority of students’ careers by experimenting new ideas to bring in change in the beleaguered education system.

Budhram further said that the state government was violating the equality in education norm by opening up government, adarsh and other schools in the state, saying that the faculty was being paid meager salaries. He expressed shock over the poor results in government schools, last year, pegged at zero per cent in 163 schools, 10 per cent in 176 schools, and 20 per cent in 232 school, which, he said, was a matter of disgrace.

He added that out of the 1873 posts, only 500 have been filled. Expressing his grave concern over recruitment, he said that no recruitment was made in government colleges after 1996.

He accused the government of running away from the hollow promises it made to the people during the last budget session to open 10 new degree college in the state, the grant of Rs 10 crore to five colleges each, and setting up of the Maharana Pratap Chair.

Budhram said that the state government should take a cue from the Arvind Kejirwal government in Delhi on regularization of the services of contractual employees to set right the beleaguered education system in the state. He said replicating the Delhi education model in the state was the need of the hour.
