Cop ends life; munshi booked

-- 11 June,2017

Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 11
Constable Amanpreet Kaur (28) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in a room at Jodhan police station last evening.
Nirbhai Singh, a munshi at the police station, has been booked under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly abetting the suicide. The accused is on the run.
Doubting the suicide theory, Gurinder Singh of Khadoor village, now a resident of New Abadi Akalgarh, suspected that his sister, Amanpreet, had been murdered by the accused.
Accusing Nirbhai of harassing his sister, Gurinder claimed that the issue had been brought to the notice of senior officers, who had allowed her to work in the DSP’s office for the time being.
As per the FIR, Amanpreet had attended duty at Jodhan police station as the replacement of another woman constable who was on leave last night.
The room where she committed suicide was being used as a restroom by male cops, including the accused. At least three cots with scattered bedding and two turbans were found in the room at the time of the incident.
SSP Surjit Singh visited the spot and supervised the investigation.
Meanwhile, leaders of various outfits, led by AAP MLA and Leader of the Opposition HS Phoolka and former legislator and CITU vice-president Santokh Singh Gill, organised a rally and urged the authorities to nab the accused without further delay.
The protestors also demanded the constitution of a special investigation team and suspension of SHO Mohan Dass for laxity.
The investigating team has based its probe on her chat record with a friend.
The chat which concluded at 6.20 pm mentions another person and suggests that the deceased was upset at that time.
Dakha DSP Jasbir Singh told the protesters that further action could be initiated only after confirming the details of phone calls and chat records.
However, the postmortem would be conducted by a panel of doctors and none of the cops posted at the Jodhan police station would be allowed to interfere in the investigation.
