COUNTER-INTELLIGENCE AND HOSHIARPUR POLICE ARREST SEVEN SMUGGLERS OF INTERSTATE DRUG RACKET, SEIZE 1.57 QUINTAL POPPY HUSK HIDDEN IN BIG OIL CONTAINERS

Jalandhar, March 14- Continuing its drive against the drug peddlers to make Punjab a drug-free state, Counter Intelligence Wing and Hoshiarpur Police have busted another interstate drug racket and recovered 1.57 quintal poppy husk being pushed to Punjab from Jammu and Kashmir in three separate vehicles hidden in oil containers. 

The accused persons have been identified as Krishan Kumar (51) of Durgapuri village, Jagdeep Singh (43) of Haibowal in Ludhiana, Harwinder Kumar (27) of Lamba Pind in Jalandhar, Karnail Singh (47), Saroop Singh (25) of LatiyanWala in Kapurthala, Mohammad Aslam (34) of Malerkotla, Rajwinder Singh(19) of Butta in Kapurthala and during checking on the police check post at Chowk Naloiyan Hoshiarpur.

In a press release, AIG Counter Intelligence Mr HPS Khakh said that as the general elections have been announced and an alert has been sounded on cross-border movements, the wing has constituted special teams for checking of vehicles coming from Jammu & Kashmir to Punjab. 

Mr Khakh told today, the wing received a tip-off that some persons involved in illegal trade of poppy husk smuggling are bringing its huge consignment by hiding in oil containers being transported on three separate vehicles including truck bearing registration number (PB10-BL-2871) a canter (PB13-AR-0635) and a Scorpio Car (HR19-B-4567) in jurisdiction of Model town Police station in Hoshiarpur.

AIG said that he immediately shared the information with SSP Hoshiarpur Mr J.Elanchezhian following which SHO Model Town police station Inspector Bharat Masih along with his team directed to hold the checking of all the vehicles coming from Jammu & Kashmir route and the team stopped above three vehicles on suspicion. 

“During checking, Police team seized 1.57 quintals poppy packed in 6 bags hidden in the oil containers from three vehicles.  A case number has been registered against them under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Model town Police Station Hoshiarpur”, he told. 

Mr Khakh said that in preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed they had procured the contraband from Jammu & Kashmir and the detailed investigation is underway to explore their contacts in the neighbouring state. 

AIG further stated that the arrested accused would be produced in the court and would be taken on police remand to get more information.
