ELECTION COMMISSION EXTENDS BAN ON EXIT POLLS TILL 5.30PM OF MARCH 9

CHANDIGARH MARCH 6: The Election Commission today extended the prohibition of conduct of exit polls up to 5.30 PM of March 9, 2017 in the poll bound states of India including the Amritsar Lok Sabha bye-poll.

Disclosing this here a spokesperson of the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that due to the death of contesting candidates, namely, Mr. Chand Shekhar and Mr. Kuldeep Singh Kanwasi from 279-Alapur (SC) assembley constituency of the Uttar Pradesh and from 06- Karna Paryag assembly constituency of Uttrakhand respectively, the commission adjourned the poll in the aforesaid two constituency and fixed 9th March, 2017 (Thursday) as the date of poll in the said constituencies.

Citing provisions of section 126 A of the Representations of the Peoples’ Act , 1951, a spokesman of the , EC said, “Exit polls cannot be conducted and publicized by means of print and electronic media or dissemination in any other manner up till March 9, 2017 till 5.30 PM.”
