Has an indebted rich man ever committed suicide, Rahul asks farmers in MP

-- 06 June,2018

New Delhi, June 6

A ballistic Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday pitched the Congress as the only pro-farmer, pro-poor and pro-worker force in the country saying if elected to power his party will waive farm loans in 10 days and asked if indebted rich people had ever killed themselves.
The Congress chief was speaking in context to both the upcoming Madhya Pradesh and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“We won’t take an 11th day. I wish to assure farmers across India we will waive all their loans if elected to power,” Gandhi said to thunderous applause in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur where he was addressing a rally to mark the first anniversary of killings of six farmers in state police action last year. The Congress president tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying there’s no space for farmers in the hearts of BJP.

“They can waive off Rs 2.50 lakh crore worth of loans of corporates but when it comes to farmers they say we don’t have time…They allow industrialists like Vijay Mallaya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi to run away with big money but have no time for farmers,” Gandhi said reminding the Congress-led UPA days to farmers when the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had waived off farm loans worth Rs 70,000 crore.
Gandhi while referring to 1,200 farmer suicides in MP this year, asked, “Has any rich man suffering bad loans ever committed suicide. No. Modiji helps them.”
The Congress chief made a strong pitch for return of Congress in 2019, saying when a delegation of farmers came to UPA for help the UPA soared their loans within 10 days.
Gandhi questioned PM’s promises to the farmers and the youth asking, “Forget Rs 15 lakh which the BJP has promised to give each one of you. Did Mr Modi give you even Rs 5? Can any youth in this gathering today say Mr Modi has given him a job. The watch Modiji wears is Made in China. He cannot fulfil the Make in India dream. My dream is when I come here next, I should see posters saying Made in Mandsaur,” Gandhi said to receptive crowds comprising mainly farmers.
The Congress chief literally sounded the poll bugle seeking a mandate in favour of the Congress and saying a Congress government in MP will complete the Mandsaur killings inquiry in 10 days and give justice to grieving families.
Gandhi earlier met the families of six farmers who were killed during protests here last year. MP elections are due this year end.
