Majithia says Sajjan has made Punjabis proud

Amritsar, April 18 – Former Revenue minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Bikram Majithia today said Canadian Defence minister Harjit Singh Sajjan had made Punjabis proud world over with his achievements and he was being appropriately honoured for the same by the SGPC.

Addressing a thanksgiving meeting at Shajada village in Majithia constituency, the Akali leader said nothing could take away from Mr Sajjan’s accomplishments as an army officer as well as Defence minister of Canada. “He is an icon for the Sikh community too. The SGPC is thus giving due recognition to him”, he added.

Speaking about recent events, Mr Majithia said it was strange that the Congress was talking about ending VIP culture and giving justice to all but its leaders were doing the exact opposite. He said while Welfare of SC and BC minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot had publically bullied and humiliated a woman principal after finding that his name was not mentioned in the first line of a foundation stone, Khadoor Sahab legislator Ramanjit Singh Sikki had threatened to physically harm any SHO who did not lodge cases as per the dictates of Congress workers. He also condemned the insult inflicted on the police force by the legislator.

The former minister also highlighted that peace had been shattered in the State due to a large number of vendetta incidents. He said even members of the scheduled caste community had been targeted by Congress goons who had not even spared the media with a journalist of a punjabi daily being beaten mercilessly at Gidderbaha. He urged Akali workers to unite as one in case of any vendetta being unleashed against them.

The SAD leader also advised the new Congress government to fulfil its election promises immediately and not try to delay them by forming committees. He said people were eagerly waiting for complete waiver of all farm loans beside an increase in pensions and start of an unemployment dole to the youth.
