Majithia to donate one month salary for winter uniform for govt school children

(Castigates Cong govt for misappropriating central funds meant for winter uniforms)

Chandigarh, February 22 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Congress government for adopting an inhuman attitude towards the suffering of 12.5 lakh government school children who were not being provided winter uniforms despite that fact that the money for the same had been released by the centre.

Addressing newsmen in the Vidhan Sabha precincts, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was for the first time ever that school children had to face a bitter winter, which had been extended inordinatately, in biting cold. “The SAD as well as the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) has highlighted this issue and also taken an initiative to distribute winter uniforms in a number of schools. However the government is totally oblivious to the suffering of the school children and has even failed to give any assurance in the Vidhan Sabha that it would distribute the same without fail”.

Urging the centre to conduct an inquiry into the misappropriation of funds sent to the Congress government to distribute winter uniforms to the lakhs of school children, Mr Majithia also appealed that the centre should now direct all money earmarked for school uniforms to the children directly instead of relying on the Congress government to buy uniforms for them.

Mr Majithia said it was unfortunate that his appeal to all legislators to contribute their one month salary for this noble cause was not allowed in the august house. He said he on his part would forward his one month salary to the YAD so that it could carry on with this initiative. He appealed to civil society to also help in this noble cause.
