Malerkotla: 22-year-old Youth dies in cross-firing in Sangrur village encounter

Sangrur,  A 22-year-old youth of Jitwal village under Malerkotla sub-division of Sangrur district died in an encounter between police and criminals at the village on Wednesday night.
His body has been lying at Malerkotla civil hospital. Police are conducting raids to nab the criminals, who escaped after the encounter.
Malerkotla SP Raminder Singh said, “Bobby of Jitwal died during the cross-firing. Our police party was chasing Gayia Khan and his accomplice Faraz Ahmad as they fled on a motorcycle after opening fire at local shopkeeper Kalim-ud-deen. When our party reached Jitwal village, the criminals opened fire at the policemen. The policemen also fired in self-defence. Our teams are conducting raids as they escaped after the encounter.”
The family and villagers learnt about the death in the morning and are on way to the Malerkotla civil hospital from Jitwal village.
Some villagers said the youth, who had gone to attend a religious function at another village on Wednesday night, was returning home, when a bullet hit him in the chest. But the police are tightlipped about the exact reason of the death.
On the statement of the injured, the police have registered a case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against Khan and Ahmad.
