Punjab Police extends full assistance and cooperation to CBI to bring ongoing investigation to logical end-DGP

-- 19 June,2018

Chandigarh, June 19:

A team of officers from CBI reached Moga on Sunday and is in the process of taking all the material information on record and proceeding with further investigations under the law.

Disclosing this here today DGP Mr. Suresh Arora said that the Punjab Police was providing the CBI team full access to the suspects and would continue to provide the CBI with its complete assistance and cooperation in bringing the ongoing investigations to completion and to bring the guilty to book.

DGP further stated that during the course of recent investigations by the SIT into an ‘arson and Damage to Public Property’ case of Moga district of 2011, the role of certain suspects has come to light, who have been arrested and produced before the competent court, which has remanded the suspects in police custody. The investigations by the SIT have also provided strong leads and material information relating to the investigation of cases presently under investigation by the CBI.

It may be recalled thatmany cases of sacrilege relating to holy religious scriptures took place in 2015-16. Since such incidents of sacrilege appeared to be part of a design to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the border State of Punjab, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted at that time for expeditious investigations of some of these cases.

Subsequently, the investigation of 3 cases (FIR no. 63/2015, 117/2105 & 128/2015 PS Bajakhana, district Faridkot) relating to sacrilege/desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was handed over by the Punjab government to the CBI in November 2015 and the CBI took over the investigation of these 3 cases after registration of FIR no. RC 13(S)/ 2015/SC-III/ND, RC-14(S)/2015/SC-III/ND and RC-15(S)/2015/SC-III/ND dated 13.11.2015, PS SC-III/ND, New Delhi.
