(Majithia asks Cong to expel Vaid from party if it does not believe in what he said)
(Asks Speaker to suspend Vaid)
Chandigarh, February 22- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned Congress legislator Kuldeep Singh Vaid for sprinkling salt on the wounds of farm suicide victim families by claiming their kin had committed suicide due to the allurement of Rs 3 lakh compensation and demanded an immediate apology from the legislator as well as the Congress party.
Terming the statement made by the Congress legislator on the floor of the Vidhan Sabha as most callous and downright inhuman, Mr Majithia said it was reflective of the mindset of the Congress party. “The Congress party has become so insensitive to the suffering of farmers that it has now started accusing them of committing suicide for a mere Rs three lakh compensation. I would like to tell the Congress Mla that more than 900 farmers have committed suicide in the last two years after being backstabbed by his party. Their families have neither received the promised Rs 10 lakh compensation nor a government job. The farmers were promised a complete Rs 90,000 crore loan waiver encompassing nationalised and cooperative banks and also private money lenders. Far from getting this they are being persecuted with ‘kurki’ proceedings as they did not pay their loan instalments taking the Congress party and its chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on his word. It is only then that they took this extreme step”, he added.
The Akali leader said the Congress party should also clarify if Vaid’s statement was also the party’s view. “If not Vaid should be immediately expelled from the party. We cannot have any elected representative playing with the sentiments of distraught farmers in this manner. I also appeal to Speaker Rana K P Singh to suspend Kuldeep Vaid from the Vidhan Sabha immediately to maintain the sanctity of the august house”, he added.
