SAD demands action against CM’s Media Advisor for violating model code

-- 11 April,2019

Chandigarh, April 11 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today registered a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) demanding strict action against Mr Raveen Thukral, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, for violating the model of code of conduct by posting official Congress party press releases on the social media besides other misdemeanors.

A complaint in this regard was submitted to the Election Commission by the Political Secretary to the SAD President – Mr Charanjit Singh Brar. The complaint said since Mr Raveen Thukral was a government servant he could not disseminate political news and press releases on his facebook page as was being done by him. Terming this as a grave violation of the model code of conduct, Mr Brar said action should be initiated against Mr Thukral for indulging in serious misconduct.

Mr Brar said the Media Advisor was also indulging in political activities and even monitoring and supervising the distribution of press releases of the Congress party. He said action, including relieving him of his post, should be taken for willfully and deliberately violating the model code of conduct.

The SAD has also simultaneously complained against Bathinda DPRO Gurdeep Mann and Mansa APRO Megha Mann for violating the model code of conduct by exercising influence on voters in favour of the Congress party. The complaint said both officers were residents of Bathinda as per the grading list and therefore should not have remained posted there following the imposition of the model code. The complaint asked the CEC to relieve both officers immediately and post them out of Bathinda besides taking action against them as per service rules for violating the model code. It also pointed out that earlier also a complaint about malpractices being conducted by these officers was pending before the Election Commission.
