SAD to give memo to DCs to urge state govt to cut tax on petrol and diesel

Chandigarh June 19 – The Shiromani Akali Dal will launch a statewide drive to put pressure on the Punjab government to reduce its share of the taxes on petrol and diesel so as to reduce their price by at least Rs 10 per liter.

Announcing this , party’s spokesperson Harcharan Bains said that a decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the Core Committee of the party here last last night .

Mr Bains said that the party’s district units will give memorandum to the Deputy Commissioners and urge the Punjab government in this regard so as to ensure relief to the common people.. Mr Bains said that senior Core Committee members in each area will lead party workers in submitting the memoranda to the DCs .

The burden of state tax on petrol and diesel is the highest in Punjab and the if the state government waives some part of it, “If the government and the Congress party are sincere in their concern for the people on petrol and diesel prices then they must cut their tax to provide relief of Rs at least Rs 10 per liter, said Mr Bains, adding that the Shiromani Akali Dal will also seek a matching relief by the centre on petrol and diesel prices.
