SAD URGES CONGRESS TO DESIST FROM INSTALLING STATUE OF INDIRA GANDHI

DON’T RUB SALT ON THE WOUNDS OF SIKH COMMUNITY : VALTOHA

Chandigarh, October 30 : The Shiromani Akali Dal today urged the Punjab Congress party to desist from installing statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 33rd death anniversary tomorrow and said that this action of the Congress party will amount to rubbing salt on the wounds of the sikh community.

In a statement released here today, the Shiromani Akali Dal Spokesman and Senior leader Mr. Virsa Singh Valtoha said that Punjab has already paid a heavy price for the misdeeds of the Congress party. He said the sikh community has already suffered a lot at the hands of the Congress party in the past and if they install a statue of Indira Gandhi in Punjab, it will amount to rubbing salt on the wounds of the sikh community as she has caused maximum damage to Punjab particularly the sikh community.

Mr. Valtoha said that Sikhs can never forget the action of Indira Gandhi against Sri Akal Takht Sahib and other sikh religious places. He said that no sikh can ever forget 1984 because Indira Gandhi was the sole reason for worst ever genocide of the sikh which took place in this country. He said that announcement of the Congress party to install statue of Indira Gandhi at Ludhiana as come as a shocker for the sikh community and it is highly intolerable for it.

The SAD leader said that if Congress goes ahead with its proposal then it will vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state and bitterness will come in relationship between different communities. He urged the Congress party to avoid such a situation which can lead to non harmonious relationships and disturb peace and tranquility of the state of Punjab.
