Set up regulatory authority to keep watch on retail prices of vegetables: Arora writes to CM

-- 16 February,2019

Chandigarh, February 16

Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Sunam MLA Aman has written to captain Amarinder Singh, chief minister of Punjab, stressing the need for setting up a regulatory authority to keep the retail prices of vegetables uniform in the state. In a letter written to CM on the basis of the feedback/input gathered through various authentic sources, Arora said that the provision would dispel the growing fear among the vegetable growers of being exploited.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Arora said that in the absence of a regulatory authority, neither the vegetable growers were getting remunerative price for their produce nor consumers getting vegetables at cheaper prices. While middlemen were netting huge profits, the farmers were being forced to sell their produce at cheaper rates, Arora said.

Arora said that with the setting up of a regulatory authority, the poor growers in the state would be able to get better price for their produce and the consumer would get it at cheaper rate. This would also put an end to the middleman ship usurping huge profits both from the growers and the consumers. This would also motivate farmers to go for vegetable farming.
